The Lygon Arms

Accommodation, History and Heritage

Located in the quintessentially English village that is Broadway in the heart of The Cotswolds, The Lygon Arms is the perfect spot to switch off and relax (with or without your pampered pooch!) Steeped in over 600 years of fascinating history, our Cotswolds hotel has played host to royalty as well as rebellious figures throughout the centuries. Notably, Charles I in person met with his supporters at ‘The White Hart Inn’ (as The Lygon Arms was formerly known,) giving his name to the impressive ‘King Charles I Suite’; Oliver Cromwell also occupied a room here immediately before engaging the Royalists at the fateful Battle of Worcester on 3rd September 1651, when Charles II was put to flight and the War won for the Parliamentarians. A reproduction of the ‘warts and all’ portrait of Cromwell hangs by the side of the great 17th Century fireplace in the appropriately named ‘Cromwell Room’.

Staying true to its roots, the hotel’s traditional honeyed walls promise a warm welcome. Expect roaring log fires in our cosy lounges, fantastic locally sourced fare from the restaurant, a relaxing spa and glorious guestrooms to tuck up in, including the famous Charles I suite.

Whilst the intimate setting of The Lygon Bar & Grill whispers history, from the vaulted ceiling decorated with antler chandeliers to its windows overlooking this enchanting English countryside village – not to mention the window where Cromwell once addressed his men before battle in 1651 – the intimate, informal atmosphere ensures this is the perfect place to unwind, relax and indulge. Sit back and enjoy a fabulously laid-back, locally sourced taste of The Cotswolds.

Staying over? Choose from a variety of cosy guestrooms and historical suites or spend the weekend in our charming cottage rooms. Whether it be a Broadway romance with a loved one, a family adventure, or a paw’some adventure with your canine companion, we have rooms to suit every occasion.

For those that relish rest and relaxation, The Lygon Spa radiates natural bliss with a myriad of rejuvenating treatments. Pop on a soft fluffy white robe and all your stress starts to melt away. Spoil yourself with an indulgent treatment, or lounge by the pool with the best kind of bubbles for guaranteed relaxation.

Equally we know how important time with the family is. Our historical countryside coaching inn provides the perfect base for families to enjoy, roam and unwind. Alongside the stunning countryside on the doorstep, there’s a wealth of family activities for everyone to check out and join in, with something to suit all ages.

After exploring the wonder and sheer breath-taking beauty of the Cotswolds on our doorstep, return to The Lygon Arms and relax around roaring fires, snuggled under warm blankets and catching up over warming drinks… make our historic house your home in The Cotswolds.
